Depending on your arrival time, you may relax at your hotel or stroll along the shores of Lake Victoria, the largest lake in Africa. For those eager to explore, you can visit the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre for a gentle introduction to the country’s biodiversity before your Uganda safari begins.

Accommodation options include the boutique Hotel No.5, the charming Boma Entebbe, or the budget-friendly Airport Guesthouse, all handpicked as part of our Uganda safari packages.

DAY 2

 Transfer to Kibale National Park

After breakfast, set off on a 5-6 hour drive through lush countryside and tea plantations toward Kibale National Park, often called the “Primate Capital of the World”. Along the way, enjoy crater lake views and stop for a local-style lunch.

In the late afternoon, you can explore the Bigodi Wetlands Sanctuary, a birdwatcher’s paradise run by the local community. Kibale is managed by the Uganda Wildlife Authority, and visiting helps support primate conservation. More on this region can be found in our guide to chimpanzee trekking in Uganda.

DAY 3

Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale Forest

Your first primate highlight awaits you during today’s activities. Expert trackers lead you into Kibale dense rainforest after a briefing for a chimpanzee trekking experience. The sound of their pant-hoots resonating through the forest canopy creates an experience that stays with you forever.

You will spend one enchanting hour with a trained troop of animals to watch them eat and take care of each other and have fun. The second tracking session begins after lunch to provide more personal interactions. The forest of Kibale provides habitat to 12 different primate species together with red colobus and L’Hoest’s monkeys.

The Jane Goodall Institute along with other organizations have supported scientific discoveries about wild chimpanzees through their conservation efforts.

Accommodations: Luxury Tier: Primate Lodge | Mid-Range Tier: Turaco Treetops | Budget Tier: Kibale Forest Camp

DAY 4

Safari & Boat Cruise in Queen Elizabeth National Park

Drive south through the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains, often called the “Mountains of the Moon,” into Queen Elizabeth National Park. This park is famous for its rich biodiversity and is one of the highlights of our Uganda wildlife safaris. In the afternoon, enjoy a Kazinga Channel boat cruise, where hippos grunt, elephants gather at the banks, and over 600 species of birds thrive. This area is listed as an Important Bird Area by BirdLife International, making it a paradise for birdwatchers.

Ishasha Wilderness – Search for Tree-Climbing Lions

Today you will venture deeper into the Ishasha Sector, the only place in Uganda where lions have adapted to spend much of their time resting in fig trees. The phenomenon of tree-climbing lions is so rare that it has been documented by National Geographic and Ishasha offers the best chance to witness this behavior.

Game drives here also bring sightings of buffalo herds, elephants, and topis. As the sun sets, enjoy sundowners overlooking the Ishasha River.

Accommodations: Luxury Tier – Ishasha Wilderness Camp | Mid-Range Tier – Ishasha Jungle Lodge | Budget Tier – Topi Lodge

DAY 6

Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

After a morning game drive, travel into the highlands toward Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Bwindi is home to nearly half the world’s endangered mountain gorillas, making it one of the most important conservation areas on earth. Driving through terraced hills and misty valleys, you will arrive at your lodge at Buhoma Lodge, Mahogany Springs, or Gorilla Valley Lodge. Learn more about this forest’s global importance on the UNESCO World Heritage site page.

Accommodation: Luxury Tier – Buhoma Lodge | Mid-Range Tier – Mahogany Springs | Budget Tier – Gorilla Valley Lodge

DAY 7

Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi

Today is the highlight of your Uganda safari. After a safety briefing, you will trek into the dense rainforest in search of a mountain gorilla family. The trek can take between 2-6 hours depending on their location, but the reward is extraordinary: standing just meters away from a silverback and his family.

This experience, supported by conservation partners such as the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, contributes directly to gorilla protection efforts. Gorilla trekking permits in Uganda are limited, so we always secure them well in advance for our travelers.

Accommodation: Luxury Tier – Buhoma Lodge | Mid-Range Tier – Mahogany Springs | Budget Tier – Gorilla Valley Lodge

DAY 8

Cultural Village Visit

Immerse yourself in the culture of local communities. Visit the Batwa pygmies, one of the forest’s original inhabitants, to learn about their ancient traditions, music, and forest survival skills. This combination of wildlife and culture is what makes our Uganda gorilla tours so unique.

Accommodation: Luxury Tier – Buhoma Lodge | Mid-Range Tier – Mahogany Springs | Budget Tier – Gorilla Valley Lodge

DAY 9

Cross Into Rwanda to Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, you will drive through the Cyanika border into Rwanda, the Land of a Thousand Hills.” The scenery shifts to rolling green hills and volcanic peaks as you approach Volcanoes National Park, made famous by Dian Fossey’s research and films like Gorillas in the Mist.

Stay at the ultra-luxurious Bisate Lodge, the charming Da Vinci Gorilla Lodge, or the budget Kinigi Guesthouse. Rwanda’s official tourism board, the Rwanda Development Board offers more on conservation efforts here.

DAY 10

Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

Today, embark on your second gorilla trek, this time in Rwanda. Trekking here is generally easier than Bwindi due to bamboo forest terrain. The experience of watching gorillas interact, feeding, playing, and communicating is never the same twice. Each gorilla permit in Rwanda contributes to local communities and the preservation of this fragile ecosystem, making your visit part of a larger conservation story. More details are available in our Rwanda gorilla trekking guide.
